Looking for a CSA in the Boston area? You can’t do better than the Farm Share Fair, being held this year at Cambridge College on Thursday, March 20 after work (5:30 to 8:30 pm).
What’s a Farm Share? A Farm Share is a weekly distribution of products during the growing season. A Farm Share box is also referred to as a CSA, which stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Customers pay money up front at the beginning of the season, and then get a box of goods throughout the season. The box is delivered weekly to a convenient pickup location in your area. At the Farm Share Fair, you can compare the programs yourself and decide which farm you’d like to buy from. Some farms offer veggies, some offer a combo of fruit and veggies, some offer flowers, meat, eggs, cheese, and other items. Farm Share Fair organizers will be offering fun prizes for anyone who signs up for a CSA that night!
The 2014 Farm Share Fair will feature over 20 Massachusetts-based farms. Customers are welcome to get to know all the farmers, learn about the types of products they offer, and select a program that meets their needs. The Farm Share Fair is free and open to the public! Follow them on Facebook and Twitter for more information.
We did a CSA a few years ago. Tasha was pretty overwhelmed with all the produce we had to consume every week:
We are also talking about doing a Boston Organics box instead of a farm share, especially now that Georgia is eating solids and working toward whole foods. Have any of you tried something like that? If so I’d love to hear about it!
I’m telling you, having a baby has made me the kind of person who orders everything online and has it shipped to my house….
You should try using Valley Green Feast! They’re a new local food delivery service in Boston that brings customized orders of local food to your door all year round using bikes!!! Plus, it’s run by a small group of women. Met them at the Farm Share Fair last week and LOVED my first delivery! http://www.valleygreenfeast.coop
